Here at Shore Campers we offer awesome campervan adventures. We’ll provide you with an awesome, shiny campervan with lovingly handcrafted interiors so that you can head off and explore the beautiful Great British coast and countryside with your family and friends.
Whilst it is a lower carbon option than other types of holidays (like plane travel), there is still an environmental cost to it. With the exception of our zero emission electric campervan, the campervans need petrol or diesel to run and the hobs use gas.
Whilst our longer term aim is to move to cleaner, greener, all-electric campervans, in the meantime we want to take responsibility for these emissions and balance them out by investing in renewable energy and reforestation projects.
We partner with Ecologi, an environmental organisation committed to taking real climate action. With a mission to reduce 50% of global CO2 emissions by 2040 and responsibly plant billions of trees every year, Ecologi facilitates the funding of carbon offset projects, planting trees around the world and helping both individuals and businesses to take responsibility and become more climate positive.
Our first initiative is to offset the carbon emissions from the fuel and gas used. We calculate the fuel based on your mileage after you’ve returned, we convert that to carbon emitted and then offset it by investing in renewable energy projects. Similarly, each time we refill a gas bottle for the hobs, we offset it. Ecologi supports a broad range of projects that are able to evidence that they are reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They support a range of carbon reduction projects that are certified at the very highest level by Gold Standard or the Verified Carbon Standard.
Secondly, we plant a tree for every guest that goes on a Shore Campers campervan holiday. Each traveller will have a tree planted in their honour.
Ecologi take steps to ensure that the work they do is done properly – that means reforesting responsibly. By planting ecologically appropriate trees in the right places, their trees can not only survive, but thrive! This involves working alongside local communities to ensure that the trees are protected from both natural and manmade threats so they can in turn support biodiversity and carbon sequestration.
You can explore the Shore Campers forest online and find out more about the planting and carbon offsetting projects that have been supported so far.
Carbon offsetting is just a small part of what we’re doing, and works alongside other meaningful action to cut our carbon emissions and reduce our environmental impact – you can read more about this on our sustainability page. You can also read about other practical ways you can help your holiday be planet positive there too.
So before you set off, know that we’ll offset every mile you drive, any gas used for cooking, as well as plant at least a tree for every traveller!
