The John Lewis ad is out and the kids have started to count down the number of sleeps until the big day, so we can just about bring ourselves to say the C-word! Here at Team Shore Campers, we’ve been thinking about things that are on our Christmas list, or just things that we love, to share with anyone who loves to camp or be in the great outdoors. These are gifts that will keep the adventurers in your life happy – and the environment too.
Golden Buoy bucket bag
A big bucket bag, perfect for throwing all your kit in after camping/surfing/wild swimming etc. Or stand in it post-watersports and use it as a changing mat. They’re made from offcuts of boat covers that would otherwise go to landfill.
All weather waterproof changing robe
Ideal for middle of the night loo trips, keeping warm around the campfire, or even for its intended use – after watersports or other outdoor pursuits! Brilliant after a refreshing sea swim! Changing robes from local favourites Passenger and EOS’s Exorobe are fantastic options made from recycled materials.
Hammam towel
Hammam towels are eco-friendly and sustainable lightweight towels – compact and quick drying. Very versatile, can be used as light towel, wrap, blanket, picnic blanket, scarf… Perfect for camping, beach trips, festivals, you name it!
Wooden tide clock from Laser + Grain
We love a tide clock, especially the fantastic wooden ones made by our clever friends at Laser + Grain.
Coastal foraging with Fore Adventure
Get out there on a coastal foraging experience, exploring the beach for seaweeds, sea vegetables, cockles, crabs and so on, then put the ingredients to good use alfresco. Recently experienced by Rob and Romesh, and Gordon Ramsay on their telly trips! We also love Fore Adventure’s kayak tours around Old Harry Rocks.
Fossil hunting with Jurassic Coast Guides
This is one on our Christmas list! Discover how to find fossils on the foreshore at Charmouth, heading onto the beach to fossil hunt with an experienced guide.
National Trust membership
Annual membership is a great idea instead of getting “stuff” – and the National Trust membership gives you free entry to more than 500 places across England and Wales, including National Parks, estates and gardens, beaches, coastlines, forests and woodlands (and car parks too!). Your membership money goes towards the upkeep of the properties they maintain, protecting places for future generations. Other good membership options include English Heritage, Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSBP), Royal Horticultural Society, Historic Royal Palaces. A great local option is membership to the Dorset Wildlife Trust, supporting 40 nature reserves across Dorset as well as supporting important educational and conservation work across local communities.
Willow and Wild subscription box
One for the kids. A nature-inspired subscription box aimed at 3-9 year olds; each box includes craft projects, flower/veg seeds, outdoor activities and a recipe to cook what you’ve grown. It teaches kids about nature in a really fun way.
Hape pocket swing
Another for the kids – and maybe the big kids too! Hang out in nature… Great for the kids out on a walk – this swing is easy to put up between two trees, lightweight and eco-friendly too.
